James M. Turner, Sr. began business in 1939 as a small residential contractor. Conditions changed after World War II, and the company shifted its concentration to commercial and industrial construction. In the 1960's, the company diversified into highway and bridge construction as well as the construction of water and sewage treatment facilities. While maintaining the capacity to perform such work, J.M. Turner & Company, Inc., over the last decade, has devoted its attention to high quality institutional, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and residential projects.

In the 1990's, J.M. Turner & Company, Inc. was asked to build custom homes for several of our commercial clients. After completing these projects and recognizing a need in the Roanoke area for a well organized custom home builder, we established a residential division to manage the construction of custom homes using the same TEAM-BUILD approach that has been so successful on our commercial projects. Upon realizing tremendous success very early on, in the spring of 2001, our residential division was transformed into J.M. Turner Homes, Inc., a company rooted in quality construction, and dedicated to achieving total client satisfaction.
