The Roanoke City Jail addition involved the substantial renovation of two existing structures with construction of an infill connector to accommodate 200 additional inmates plus staff with support areas. The project contained a total of 50,000 square feet and is protected from fire by a full sprinkler system. It also includes a new security camera monitoring system for all cells, hallways and rooms. All cell pods in the annex were fabricated off site along with furniture and then were field installed and welded in their final positions. This $6 million project was completed in April 1996.
