History

J. M. Turner, Sr. began business in 1939 as a small residential contractor. Conditions changed after World War II, and the company shifted its concentration to commercial and industrial construction. In the 1960’s, the company diversified into highway and bridge construction as well as the construction of water and sewage treatment facilities. While maintaining the capacity to perform such work, the company has, over the last decade, devoted its attention to high quality institutional, commercial, industrial and healthcare projects.

We continue to seek opportunities for working with knowledgeable owners and architects through negotiated contracts. Our diverse construction background, coupled with an extremely bright and innovative estimating staff, has helped us increase our volume of work in this very specialized type of business. Equally as important, many of our projects are obtained through repeat business. It is satisfying for us to know that our clients are pleased with our work, time and time again.

  • We are now in our second generation of owner management.
  • Our offices are in the Roanoke Valley and Staunton (410 Commerce Road).
  • Our primary market is within a 200-mile radius of the Roanoke Valley.
  • We have a total work force of between 100 and 150, depending on the work load, which includes five project managers and nineteen superintendents.
  • We have a full time estimating staff and a separate contract administration department.
  • The company is an authorized Varco-Pruden dealer, and in 1994 we ranked 13th in the nation in sales of pre-engineered buildings.
